CSEA San Juan Chapter 127 CLASSIFIED LAYOFFS UPDATE #1 February 25, 2009 We met with the District’s Negotiation Team today at the District Office. There were more talks of the cuts that were listed on last night’s School Board agenda. We were surprised that the Classified Employees were targeted for layoffs without any firm figures to support their being on the layoff and/or reduction list. When asked about the State’s Budget and whether or not it would have a more positive outcome for those on the list. We were told that the District is still going by the “Worst Case” scenario even though the Budget has been passed. We will meet again on March 3rd after Michael Dencavage has had a chance to “unpack” the results of the Budget. They are still going forward with the layoffs of: 113 classified on April 30th 99 classified on June 30th IT’S NOT A DONE DEAL! The District was asked to lead by example – cut the waste! If you know of any waste – please let us know & we’ll ask the District about why the waste is being allowed even though we have a budget crisis. Call me at 727-7353. Over the next week or so we will visit each site within San Juan to meet with the Classified Employees and to answer any concerns you may have. We are also sending out a commitment postcard for you to fill out & let us know you will join us at the March 10th School Board meeting to let the District have an opportunity to “put a face” to the “numbers” of layoff. Please return the commitment card to any Job Steward or Executive Board member or you can mail it back to us at the Sacramento Field Office number printed on the front of the card.
